Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario has rejected a loan move to West Ham, according to Sky Sports.

The news outlet claims that the 24-year-old has decided against joining the Hammers, despite Inter willing to let him leave for the Premier League on loan in January.

French news outlet RMC Sport initially reported that David Moyes’ side had opened talks with the Italian club about taking the playmaker until the end of the season.

However, they appear to have been unsuccessful in their pursuit as the Portugal international has rejected a move.

Mario has been a bit-part player this season for Inter, but has still managed five assists in 15 appearances.

The versatile attacker now has 25 assists in the last two and a half seasons at club level, with one campaign

Good move for West Ham?

Mario is not enjoying his best season to date at Inter, but there is no doubt he would be a brilliant addition at the London Stadium.

The attacking midfielder can play anywhere across the frontline and has proved during his time with Inter and formerly Sporting Lisbon he is a big goal threat.

He helped Portugal win the European Championships in 2016 and is renowned for his high work-rated.

West Ham could do with a bit of star quality sprinkled into their team and Mario would fit the bill.

This deal now seems dead in the water and Moyes may have to search elsewhere to find an alternative January target.
