Tottenham would be prepared to knock back a world-record bid from Real Madrid for their talisman Harry Kane, according to the Times.

The newspaper claims that cash-rich European giants Madrid are willing to smash the £200million barrier to sign the 24-year-old centre-forward.

However, it is understood that Daniel Levy does not plan to lose the England international at any cost and views him as a key part of the club moving forward.

The report details that the north London club are prepared to go close to a £200,000-a-week contract to keep him with them, which could also convince a host of other star players to extend their deals.

Good move for Spurs?

Spurs simply can’t lose Kane at any cost, even if they do receive a £200million windfall for his sale.

The striker is invaluable to the club for several reasons and the main one has to be what a consistent goalscorer he has become.

He is now renowned as one of the best finishers in world football and he has already netted 28 goals in as many appearances this season.

Kane’s goals couldn’t be replaced by any signing in the future and he is also the heartbeat of the club, with a future Spurs captain and legend in the making.

Likely to happen?

Kane does look more likely to remain at his boyhood club Spurs and chairman Levy has made his stance over the player very clear.

However, there will always be the reminder of Gareth Bale’s sale in the back of supporters mind and the main concern will be how long they can keep their current superstar if they fail to win silverware.
