Rangers are edging closer to their first permanent signing of the January transfer window with Brighton winger Jamie Murphy set to undergo a medical on Thursday, as reported by Sky Sports.

The broadcaster report that a deal of around £1million has been agreed between the two clubs, and Murphy is now to undergo a medical at Auchenhowie ahead of the move.

The Scottish Sun further report that Murphy will put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year deal at Ibrox, sealing a move to the club he supported as a boy.

The 28-year-old looks set to become the Gers’ second signing of the window after they confirmed a loan deal for young QPR midfielder Sean Goss on Wednesday.

Murphy started his career in Scotland with Motherwell before moving south to join Sheffield United, where he played for two years.

A move to the south coast then followed, and he was a key member of the Brighton side that earned promotion back to the Premier League last season.

He made 35 appearances that season, scoring two goals and laying on three assists, although his contribution was much more significant than those numbers suggest.
