With Andy Carroll being frustrated with his current role at West Ham and Newcastle United needing a striker, January looks like the perfect time for Carroll to return home.

The striker in a recent interview, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, shared the frank confession that he is unhappy with just coming off the bench in games and wishes to start more.

“It’s been very frustrating, I’ve been sitting on the bench – it’s been tough,” Carroll admitted to the newspaper.

“It’s hard when you’re coming on for the last 20 minutes, when I have been I have probably been making an impact but it’s not really what I want to do, I don’t want to be an impact player coming off the bench.”

Carroll, 28, made his first league start since November on Tuesday against West Bromwich Albion, grabbing two goals to earn the Hammers a vital win.

Whereas, the Magpies who have been struggling to score in the league this season are continuing their quest to find a goalscorer to help get them important wins.

Troy Deeney is the latest in a long line of strikers that have been linked with a move to St James Park, as Rafa Benitez has made it a key priority to sign a striker in the January window.

However, Carroll and Newcastle United’s problems could both be solved with one simply reunion.

The Magpies could take advantage of Carroll’s frustration and sign the striker from West Ham, to see both relive past glory days.

The Gateshead-born striker was a sensation and a fan favourite at Newcastle United as he rose through the youth system to become a prolific striker in the first-team.

In his last season at the club, before making a move to Liverpool, Carroll scored 11 goals in 19 league appearances.

This meant by the time he had left, he had feature 90 times for the Magpies, scoring 33 goals and grabbing 18 assists.

The striker’s goals along with the fans appreciating a local lad, helped achieve him hero status with the club.

However, since departing the Magpies, the striker has battled serious injury issues which has seen him no longer recognised as one of the top strikers in the league.

Carroll is still capable of providing goals like he did on Tuesday for West Ham, but the Hammers clearly see Marko Arnautovi? as their main man.

This wouldn’t be the case at Newcastle United, the striker would instantly walk into the first-team and become a fan favourite once again if he hits the ground running.

Carroll’s return wouldn’t just see him flourish again, but if he provides the goals it will help cement the Magpies’ place in the Premier League for next season.

Newcastle United face relegation, with a goalscorer being exactly what they need to ensure survival.

Carroll is capable of being that striker, and after a run of games in the second-half of the season, would no doubt be ready to continue to fire the Magpies to further glory next season.

With Carroll in their side, the Magpies could be seen as a Premier League mainstay once again and January is the perfect time to seal the reunion.
