Rangers have submitted a second bid worth more than £500,000 for Hamilton Academical star Greg Docherty, according to STV.

The broadcaster report that Graeme Murty’s side made an initial approach for Docherty earlier this month, and tabled an opening bid of £350,000 which was rejected.

STV claim that it is not clear whether this bid has been accepted by Hamilton, with whom the 21-year-old signed a new contract in August running until 2020.

As reported by the Daily Record however, it is understood that the Accies board are holding out for a bid of £600,000, and they are prepared to wait out the window as interest in Docherty grows.

The young midfield dynamo has been with the Lanarkshire club since the age of nine, and has already made 109 appearance at just 21 years old.

Docherty has scored three goals and provided six assists in 21 Premiership appearances this season.

Good move for Rangers?

100%.

Docherty is already something of an assist king who creates chances at will and is developing into a real talent at Hamilton, and it really looks as though Scotland have a new young star on their hands.

The 21-year-old looks ready for a step up in competition, and Rangers is the perfect place for him to do that, with Murty looking to build a team based around young talent.

And, at £600,000, Docherty will not break the bank either.

Likely to happen?

Rangers are obviously keen to get this deal over the line, but it looks as though they may be forced to up their offer slightly.

The Hamilton board will not be messed around when it comes to their young star, and Rangers will need to meet their demands if they want to land Docherty.

You would think that the Light Blues would be able to do so having already bid more than £500,000, but they will need to top their offer up quickly with time running out in the window.
