Rangers are close to their second signing of the January window as a deal for Brighton winger Jamie Murphy could be sealed by the end of today (Thursday), according to the Scottish Sun

The newspaper report that the two sides are now close to an agreement for the former Motherwell star, and the 28-year-old could jet in for a medical in the coming hours.

The Sun claim that Gers have offered Murphy and three-and-a-half year deal, although no fee has been reported.

It is said that Murphy would represent Graeme Murty’s first signing as manager, with director of football Mark Allen leading the chase for new recruit Sean Goss, who joined on Wednesday.

Good move for Rangers?

Where the signing of Sean Goss incited disappointment, the signing of Jamie Murphy should bring some excitement to the Gers faithful.

Murphy is a player that is well-known within the Scottish game, and his recent experience in the Championship and Premier League mean his reputation is high.

The 28-year-old is exactly the kind of signing that looks perfect for the Light Blues this window, with the former Scotland youth international both available and inexpensive.

It looks like Murty must be given the credit on this one, and that is also a promising sign for Rangers fans, seeing him chase a realistic yet exciting signing in his first few weeks as a manager.

Likely to happen?

The Sun seem to think this one is nearly done, although it is probably doubtful that it will be completed on Thursday.

The two sides were reportedly far from an agreement in last couple of days, and there will probably be a few details yet to be ironed out.

It does look close though, and expect an announcement soon, most likely on Friday.
