Wolves fans have reacted with delight on Twitter to reports the club sensationally want to sign former hero Robbie Keane this month.
Sky Sports reported on their transfer centre blog on Thursday (10.59am) that the runaway Championship leaders want the veteran striker, 37, to help them secure promotion to the Premier League.
It is said that Keane, who made his professional debut for Wolves in 1997 before a £6million move to Coventry two years later, is keen on a shock and emotional return to the club where he made his debut as a teenager.
Keane has been playing for ATK in India, where Teddy Sheringham is first-team coach, but may be able to secure an early release from his contract.
Wolves were reportedly eager to re-sign Keane in the summer after he left LA Galaxy but he had already committed to ATK and the club want to use his experience to help them return to the top flight for the first time since 2012.
Boss Nuno Espirito Santo has guided Wolves 12 points clear at the top of the Championship and they host Premier League strugglers Swansea in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Nuno has been keeping an eye on Keane’s progress and the ex-Tottenham, Celtic and Inter Milan forward is now fit after an Achilles problem.
He has scored twice in four games for ATK in the Indian Super League, including the opener in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Goa.
A huge section of Wolves fans took to social media to comment on the Keane link and the majority claim it would be a stunning capture from the club.

Robbie Keane to #Wolves
Staggering if true. A glorious move from Fosun to elevate the current high mood amongst fans.
If true, surely a route to a coaching role at the club. #wwfc

I hope we sign Keane. He can retire where he started, get a championship winners medal, provides competition and cover and help the strikers currently at the club. From a club point they get more media attention, shirt sales and the popularity of Fosun increases. #wwfc #wolves

Well on board with Robbie Keane signing, for the pure romance of it. Can’t imagine he’ll play all that regularly but he can offer the experience we need. #wwfc

Keane to Wolves makes some sense. Back up to Bonatini and Mir. Bright goes out on loan to get game time. MGW learns from a legend. #wwfc #wolvesaywe

Surely these Robbie Keane rumours can’t be true… #wwfc

Seems rather bizarre with our free flowing pacy attacking football to be looking at a 37 year old, but I’d take Robbie Keane back with open arms! Come home Robbie! #wwfc

I couldn’t give a toss if he is 37. If he can still do the job, i would welcome back Robbie Keane in a heartbeat. #WWFC
