Bournemouth midfielder Emerson Hyndman is poised to make a shock return to Ibrox on loan this month, according to The Sun

The newspaper claim that the American, 21, has become Graeme Murty’s next major target this month after a successful spell with the club last season.

The Sun report that Eddie Howe is set to allow the USA international to leave the club in search of regular football, and expects him to return to play first-team football on the south coast.

It is said that Murty regards Hyndman as “a tried-and-tested player to slot straight into his midfield for the rest of the season”.

Hyndman would be Rangers’ sixth signing of the window after Declan John, Jamie Murphy, Sean Goss, Jason Cummings and Russell Martin.

Good move for Rangers?

Definitely, and a hugely surprising one, too. Hyndman showed his genuine quality during his loan spell at Ibrox last season, and there is no reason he cannot do that again this season.

The 21-year-old central midfielder scored four times and laid on two assists in 13 Premiership appearances before being frozen out under Pedro Caixinha towards the end of the campaign.

With Sean Goss already arrived at Ibrox this month, it looks as though the Light Blues midfield is in line for a real revamp this month. No one saw this coming, but the arrival of Hyndman would be the best signing yet.

Likely to happen?

If The Sun are to be believed, then this one looks all set.

However, this is the first mention of any potential deal anywhere, so it may yet be just a rumour.

Only time will tell.
