Celtic midfielder Liam Henderson has sealed an exit from Parkhead after signing for Serie B side Bari on a permanent deal.

The Hoops announced the move on their official website on Wednesday afternoon, with Henderson leaving the club after making 36 first-team appearances.

The 21-year-old was a Celtic academy graduate, and made his debut for the club in 2013 at just 17 years old, coming on as a late substitute in a 5-0 win over Motherwell.

The midfielder never really forced his way into first-team contention at the club, and went on two successful loan spells, first to Rosenborg in Norway before playing a starring role for Hibernian in the 2015/16 campaign.

OPINION

Henderson’s exit was always on the cards this month, with the 21-year-old linked with Bari for a while now. It became obvious that a deal was to be completed when he impressed on trial with the Serie B outfit, and that has now been confirmed. Credit must go to Henderson for taking the brave decision to go to Italy, with many others in a similar position probably opting for the safe option of staying in Scotland. However, former Italy international Fabio Grosso, who is Bari’s manager, has obviously convinced Henderson to take the leap onto the continent. Hopefully he can help Bari to promotion this year, with the side currently lying in fourth in the second tier.
