Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has emerged as a £7million target for Premier League side Swansea and MLS outfit Sporting Kansas City, according to the Daily Mail

The newspaper report that Swansea are on a January hunt for a goalscoring forward after they fell to the bottom of the Premier League, and Griffiths is now on their radar.

The Mail claim that the heavy competition up front for the Hoops, which sees Griffiths vying with Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard for game time, has alerted clubs to the 27-year-old.

It is said that Griffiths is still a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans at Celtic after slipping to the fringes of the team, but West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace have also been linked with the striker.

Sporting Kansas City chief executive Rob Heineman has vowed to sign a forward this month, and the club’s owners plan to spend big on overseas players in 2018, but it is not known if they can stump up enough money to make a real move.

Good move for Celtic?

Absolutely not.

With Dembele highly coveted already in the Premier League, it looks like the Hoops may already lose one of their centre-forwards in January.

If Griffiths were to go as well, then Rodgers would have some serious reshuffling to do half way through the season.

With the young Frenchman possibly leaving this month, that would mean Griffiths would probably become their number one choice up front, and they can’t afford to lose him too.

Likely to happen?

For all those reasons mentioned, this is an unlikely one.

Griffiths is set for more minutes if Dembele leaves, and the Scotland international will know that.

Unless he has designs on playing in the Premier League, then it’s safe to assume he would like to stay at the Hoops for as long as possible.

Rodgers is unlikely to want to let him go, and those two factors should mean that Griffiths goes nowhere this month.
