Celtic have submitted a £1million deadline day bid for Dundee centre-back Jack Hendry, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper report that the Hoops have doubled their initial bid of £500,000 for the 22-year-old enforcer, which was submitted at the beginning of the month.

The Record claim that the new bid may force the Dark Blues into a last-minute sale, despite manager Neil McCann valuing his young star at £1.5million.

It is said that there has also been Premier League interest in Hendry, who has been a shining light for Dundee in a tough season so far.

Good move for Celtic?

This would be a brilliant move from Brendan Rodgers.

Hendry has burst onto the scene with Dundee after a relatively quiet start to his career which saw him at Partick Thistle and Wigan, and also took in loan spells at Shrewsbury and MK Dons.

His classy play this season however has seen Hendry mark himself out as one to watch for Scotland in the coming years, and it is no surprise that some big clubs have been circling this month.

A future centre-back partnership between Hendry and Kristoffer Ajer would be seriously exciting for the Hoops, and if a deal goes through at £1million it would be a snip.

Likely to happen?

It looked for all the money in the world as though Celtic would swoop early for Hendry, with Rodgers a well-known admirer of the 22-year-old.

However, because they have left it so late, it is hard to see this one going through today.

Dundee would want to sign a replacement, and Celtic have not even matched their valuation of Hendry yet.

As of now, this one looks pretty unlikely.
