Celtic are in advanced talks with English League One club to loan out Kundai Benyu, according to Football Insider.

The football news site claim that attacking midfielder Benyu, 20, is set to move to the third tier outfit for the remainder of the season as the two clubs close in on an agreement.

Football Insider report that Celtic have fielded enquiries from a number of clubs about taking Benyu on loan, but Oldham are set to win the race for his signature.

Benyu joined Celtic on a free transfer last summer when the Scottish champions beat a host of Premier League clubs to his signature following the expiration of his contract at Ipswich Town.

Benyu has made four appearances in all competitions for Celtic so far this season, but only two of those have been starts, in the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish League Cup.

Good move for Celtic?

Yes. Benyu is a Zimbabwe international and has made a good impression on the Celtic coaching staff since arriving last summer. But he is miles off the first team and needs a spell out on loan to develop and play regular first-team football. Whether Oldham are the right choice is another matter. They are locked in a relegation battle at 20th in League One, and Benyu might not know what has hit him over the coming weeks. Should he thrive at Boundary Park, it would be a massive boost in his bid to establish himself at Parkhead.

Likely to happen?

Football Insider is a very reliable source of football transfer news and, if they say the deal is close, then you can be sure that talks are at an advanced stage between the parties involved. Expect Benyu to soon be announced as an Oldham loanee.
