West Ham are considering a move for Anderlecht’s 22-year-old midfielder Leander Dendoncker, according to Nieuwsblad.

The Belgian newspaper claim that the midfielder would cost over £17million in January and his price-tag would be closer to £33million if a deal was to be done in the summer.

Nieuwsblad report that while Anderlecht would be reluctant to sell, they did promise Dendoncker that they would let him go for the right price at the end of the season.

The midfielder, who is now being used as a central defender for Anderlecht, previously rejected a new contract in August.

However, his deal still has a significant amount of time left on it, as it doesn’t expire until 2021.

The 22-year-old has made 27 appearances for Anderlecht across all competitions this season.

Good move for West Ham?

This would be a sensational signing for the Hammers as the midfielder has previously attracted the interest of Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Everton.

Dendoncker is the ideal midfielder for West Ham as his ability to be utilised as a defender will provide the Hammers’ squad with extra cover.

Also West Ham lack a midfielder capable of consistently winning the battle for them in the middle of the park, and Dendoncker is capable of doing that.

Likely to happen?

Anderlecht are not keen to lose one of their key players, and have only promised to listen to offers in the summer for the midfielder.

However, if West Ham delivered a suitable offer for the 22-year-old in January, then Anderlecht may let him go now in order to find his replacement quicker.
