Tottenham put in a below-par display as they drew 1-1 against Southampton at St. Mary’s on Sunday afternoon, and it was a match that raised a lot of issues for the club as they look to qualify for the Champions League.

Southampton managed to take the lead early on as Davinson Sanchez inadvertently slotted into his own net as he tried to block Ryan Bertrand’s dangerous whipped cross.

Spurs were however level within three minutes of the own goal, with top scorer Harry Kane moving to 99 Premier League goals with a powerful header from a corner.

Tottenham struggled to build on their equaliser as a much-improved Southampton side kept them out until half-time, with Jack Stephens going closest for the Saints with a stooping header that missed by inches.

As we have seen many times this season, Spurs then struggled to break down a resolute Saints defence, and the home side looked the most likely to win the game at several points in the match.

The result leaves Tottenham in fifth in the Premier League, now two points behind Liverpool who play their game in hand against Swansea on Monday.

This is Futbol have picked out three things we learned about Spurs from the game, including one international star their attack desperately missed.
