Arsene Wenger has given a decisive update on Alexis Sanchez’s Arsenal future and has dismissed previous reports in the process.

The Gunners boss was asked in his press conference ahead of the League Cup clash with Chelsea, whether any clubs had made an offer for Sanchez.

Wenger simply replied “no” before another journalist asked whether he still expected the attacker to stay.

“I expect nothing,” answered Wenger, as quoted by Arsenal’s official site.

“When solicitations happen, you respond to it, at the moment, it’s very quiet.”

A previous report on Sunday courtesy of a Chilean journalist stated that Manchester City had submitted an offer of £20million for the attacker but Wenger’s comments have now conflicted that report.

The Arsenal manager went on to reveal that he doesn’t believe Sanchez’s presence in the team causes an issue and that the attacker could face Chelsea on Wednesday.

OPINION

As Sanchez continues to be linked with an exit, with time ticking down on his contract that is set to expire in the summer, nothing seems certain. It was widely reported that the attacker was close to sealing his exit from the club and due to join Manchester City any day now. However, Wenger’s comment have changed the narrative once again. While Wenger may be playing it coy as he has an important cup game to focus on, especially after their FA Cup elimination at the weekend, it’s still goes against reports. Wenger’s comments will have all eyes glued to his team selection on Wednesday because if Sanchez features, it will mean a deal in January is still no closer to happening.
