Manchester City have tabled a £20million bid for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, according to a reliable journalist.

Maks Cardenas, who works for Chilean TV channel Canal de Futbol, reported on his personal Twitter account on Sunday evening that Sanchez is close to signing for City even though the two clubs are yet to agree a fee.

Cardenas explained that Sanchez was omitted from the Arsenal squad for their 4-2 FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday “so he will not be cup tied” later in the competition.

He reported that a £20million City bid is on the table for the Chilean forward but Arsenal value him at £35million.

Sanchez, 29, will become a free agent in the summer when his contract at the London giants expires.

OPINION

Sanchez has cut a frustrated and isolated figure for Arsenal this season, with his performances a mixture of the good, the bad and the ugly. His statistics are merely okay by his standards, 21 games have yielded eight goals and four assists, but even the Gunners fans who are happy for him to be sold this month accept that he is the team’s outstanding individual. Proven in the Premier League and with his ferocious hunger and work ethic still intact, the multi-dimensional attacker will be a brilliant signing for an already scintillating City attack. He will have to compete for a starting role with Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and the injured Jesus but Sanchez will immediately make an already formidable City side stronger. The signs are increasing that this deal will be done before January is out.
