Tottenham are set to seal a double deal for central midfielder Luke Amos in the next 72 hours, according to a club insider.

The Lilywhite Rose Twitter account, which is a reliable source of information on Spurs’ rising star, reported on Sunday evening that Amos, 20, has signed an extension to his contract with the club and will immediately head to Stevenage on loan for the rest of the season.

Amos has spent a previous spell out on loan, at Southend United in the second half of last season, where he made just three League One appearances.

Stevenage are a division lower and the midfield anchorman is expected to compete more strongly for a first team position.

Amos, who turns 21 next month, is yet to make his senior Tottenham debut but is a regular for the club’s Under-23s.

OPINION

It makes sense for Tottenham to temporarily offload any player who is not in genuine first team contention. Truth be told, Amos is nowhere near the first team set-up at his parent club and it is best for his development that he heads out on loan to a League Two club, where he can expect regular first-team football. Spurs clearly rate the youngster, as he is at an age now where he would be offloaded permanently if the coaching staff did not think he could make it. The imminent double deal of a new contract and a half-season loan should spur Amos on to new heights.
