Everton wide forward Aaron Lennon is most likely to be the next Leeds United signing, according to Football Whispers.

The former England international, 30, has rocketed up the list of expected Leeds arrivals after Everton splashed out £20million to prise Theo Walcott from Arsenal this week.

Lennon began his career at Elland Road before joining Tottenham in his late teens and he has gone on to have a stellar Premier League career.

Football Whispers, which gathers all transfer rumours across the globe and calculates the likelihood of them happening, rates it 3.1 out of 5 that Lennon will join Leeds, with five the highest possible ranking and meaning it is a certainty.

The Everton player is narrowly ahead in the ratings of Laurens De Bock, who joined from Club Brugges last week, and FC Groningen striker Mimoun Mahi, who is rated at 2.6 to join Leeds.

Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen is reportedly looking to add to his options at Elland Road in the final two weeks of the window after the club landed left-back De Bock for a reported £1.5million and signed Adam Forshaw from Middlesbrough on Thursday for £4.5million.

Good move for Leeds?

Undoubtedly. Lennon’s best years are behind him but he remains a fine Premier League player and has appeared in 14 consecutive league matches for Everton, mostly as a substitute. He is still explosively quick, can penetrate defences and create and finish goals. Lennon would immediately add a new dimension to the Leeds front line and could dovetail sensationally with Samuel Saiz and Pablo Hernandez.

Likely to happen?

It is possible, but difficult as Lennon will be on high wages at Everton. However, the signing of Walcott has pushed him down the Goodison Park pecking order and he is out of contract in the summer. If Leeds could seduce him with an attractive enough package at the club where he began his career, a deal is not beyond the bounds of possibility.
