Leeds United have made a move to sign Middlesbrough central midfielder Adam Forshaw, according to Football Insider.

The reliable sports news site claim that United have taken the first steps in their battle with Championship rivals Cardiff City to sign Forshaw, 26, after manager Thomas Christiansen requested the signing of someone who can add drive from midfield.

Football Insider report that the former Everton youngster has an “uncertain future” at the Riverside and a number of clubs are actively monitoring his situation.

It is said that Cardiff boss Neil Warnock has already expressed an interest in Forshaw as he looks to bring in a new central midfielder this month.

Good move for Leeds?

This is an intriguing pursuit and not the Boro midfielder that Leeds fans were expecting their club to sign. Forshaw’s teammate Adam Clayton, who had a successful spell at Leeds a few years back, has been linked with a move to Elland Road, but the pursuit of the younger Adam is a surprise. Forshaw has previous experience of winning promotion from the Championship with Middlesbrough and he would be a valuable addition to a Leeds squad that has demonstrated in recent weeks it is light on knowhow and experience. Likely to happen?

Forshaw has a contract at Boro until the summer of 2020 but he increasingly appears surplus to requirements. He has not featured for the club since 9 December and has failed to make an impression on new boss Tony Pulis. There is certainly a chance Leeds can get Forshaw, although there is competition for his signature.
