Leeds United have been installed as second favourites to sign Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Bet Victor priced the Championship giants at 10/1 on Saturday morning to land the free-scoring striker before the transfer window shuts at the start of February.

Cardiff City (4/5) lead the betting race ahead of second-tier rivals Leeds and Aston Villa (both 10/1), Wolves (12/1) and trio Newcastle United, Derby County and Fulham (all 14/1).

Earlier this month, Leeds were a relatively distant 14/1 to sign Grabban, when they lagged behind five other clubs in the betting race.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has said will leave Bournemouth in the January transfer window after returning early from a season-long loan with Sunderland.

Grabban, 29, spent five months with the Championship side, scoring 12 goals in 19 league appearances.

Howe says Sunderland and Bournemouth mutually agreed to terminate the season-long loan at Grabban’s request and the striker is looking for a permanent move during the January window.

The Cherries signed Grabban for a second time for £7million in January 2016 after he impressed with Norwich, but he has made just four Premier League starts among 22 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen has made it clear that he is in the market for a new striker before the January window shuts.

OPINION

What a fine signing Grabban would be for Leeds this month. He would add some serious cutting edge to a front line that has looked powerpuff in recent weeks, as the club’s current front men look devoid of belief and inspiration. A proven goalscorer at Championship level, Grabban was excellent for rock-bottom club Sunderland in the first half of the campaign, and Bournemouth have given him the green light to make a permanent exit before the 31 January cut-off. It has been reported that Cardiff are showing a strong interest in him, but Leeds have already showed with the £4.5million capture of Adam Forshaw from Middlesbrough this week that they are prepared to blow Neil Warnock’s side out of the water if required.
