Leeds United sealed the signing of Adam Forshaw from Middlesbrough on Thursday evening – and the big talking point among fans on Twitter was the £4.5million fee.
In a statement on their official website, the Yorkshire giants proudly announced that they had seen off competition from rival clubs to secure the signature of the central midfielder.
Leeds also took the unusual step of announcing the fee for Forshaw, 26, as they explained they will pay their promotion rivals £4.5million for the former Everton youngster.
It is the highest United have paid for a player in more than 16 years, since the £11million capture of Robbie Fowler from Liverpool in November 2001 back in their Premier League glory days.
Leeds fans on social media have all been talking about the fee for the player who had lost his place in the team at the Riverside Stadium and had not featured since 9 December.
Many believe it is a lot of money for the club to spend, while others urged fans to wait until Forshaw has had a chance to prove himself.

I hope Forshaw gives us something extra but £4.5m is a lot to pay. Is he any better than what we have already in central midfield and are our fans just wanting anyone in? Seems a Typical overpriced and slightly panicky January purchase for me. Prove me wrong lad please #lufc

People complaining about not signing players. Then too many U23’s. Now too much money. Ffs. Shall we give the people in charge a chance to prove they know what they are doing…?! Mot

I don’t think we just spent 4.5m for a midfielder to sit on the bench either. Ronny and Forshaw?
