Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Oxford United and Bradford City are interested in signing Liverpool defender Lloyd Jones, according to HITC Sport.

The website claim that the 22-year-old is attracting attention from a mixture of Championship and League One clubs, with the Reds expected to let him go out on loan before the 31 January cut-off.

HITC Sport report that out of the four clubs known to be interested, none have made a formal offer as of yet.

The centre-back has already had several temporary exits from Liverpool, having spent time on loan at Swindon Town, Blackpool, Accrington Stanley and Cheltenham Town in recent seasons.

The 22-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for the Reds, but has been recognised on an international level, as he has featured five times for England Under-20s.

Good move for Liverpool?

The defender doesn’t look close to breaking into the Reds’ first-team any time soon, and it’s wise to get him playing as much senior football as possible.

The 22-year-old will be keen to play regular football and Liverpool need to ensure their youth prospects continue to develop.

It would be ideal for the Reds if Bolton’s interest was to be made concrete, as the defender has previously spent time at League One and League Two clubs; but is yet to try Championship action.

The higher level could really see the defender improve from his experience.

Likely to happen?

Jones will leave on loan in this window, even though there’s been no formal offers for the defender so far.

The only thing that is undecided, is what club will win the race for his services.

With no formal offers made, the race is wide open with no clear favourite at this stage.
