Mateusz Klich is likely to leave Leeds United before the end of the January transfer window, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay said in a Twitter exchange with a Leeds fans that he expects the Poland midfielder, 27, to depart Elland Road before the 31 January cut-off.

But, writing on his personal Twitter account, Hay explained that there is no chance of United cutting short the season-long loan of striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

This comes after Leeds announced on Tuesday evening that they have cancelled Cameron Borthwick-Jackson’s season-long loan from Manchester United after just six appearances.

Klich signed on a permanent deal when he arrived from FC Twente last summer but, like Borthwick-Jackson, has barely figured under Thomas Christiansen.

He has started only one Championship match and accumulated just 10 appearances in total across all competitions.

OPINION

Christiansen does not appear to have much faith in Klich, of whom much was expected when he was among the stampede of exciting new arrivals last summer. Leeds fans have barely been able to form opinions of the former FC Twente central midfielder as his game time has been so limited, with just 135 league minutes in total. With reports that Leeds now want to sign a new central midfielder and Klich already behind Ronaldo Vieira, Kalvin Phillips and Eunan O’Kane in the pecking order, it is surely inevitable that Klich will depart either permanently or on loan before the January window shuts.
