Leeds United have reignited their interest in signing attacking midfielder Marcus Maddison from League One club Peterborough, according to ClubCall.

The news outlet claims that the Whites sent scouts to watch the 24-year-old in action on Boxing Day against Bradford City, while his teammate forward Jack Marriott was also monitored.

It is understood that Thomas Christiansen’s side are the latest Championship club to show an interest in signing Maddison ahead of the January transfer window.

The report details that Leeds were in talks to bring the playmaker to Elland Road earlier in the year, but then-owner Massimo Cellino interfered with the deal before it broke down.

Maddison has carved a name for himself as an assist machine and has lived up to that by supplying 18 goals in 32 games across all competitions this season for Peterborough.

Good move for Leeds?

Maddison appears to be back on Leeds’ radar and the versatile attacker looks like he could make the step up to the Championship.

The Englishman has been in stunning form for League One’s promotion chasers Boro this campaign, by scoring nine goals and supplying 18 assists.

He is comfortable of playing on either flank, but is best used in the middle of the park.

Maddison would be an exciting signing for the Whites, but not a necessity as he would have to compete alongside Samuel Saiz and Pablo Hernandez for a position at Elland Road.

Christiansen should look to improve his squad in January and a left-back should be a transfer priority.

Likely to happen?

Leeds look set to be back in the running for Maddison, but there is no suggestion a deal is near to completion as they are yet to make an official approach.

Boro will also be reluctant to lose one of their key players as they look to gain promotion to the Championship.
