Everton manager Sam Allardyce is lining up a move for Crystal Palace defender Patrick van Aanholt in January, according to Teamtalk.
The news outlet claims that the Toffees failed last January in their bid to sign the 27-year-old and could now be about to reignite their attempt.
It is understood that Allardyce is considering a move for the left-sided flyer to give competition to Cuco Martina, with Leighton Baines not seen as a long-term solution.
The report details that Palace paid an initial £9million to sign Van Aanholt last January which could rise to £12million and Allardyce was in charge at Selhurst Park at the time of his signing.
Allardyce has previously worked with the attack-minded left-back at both Palace and Sunderland before, with the manager clearly a big fan of his qualities.
Good move for Everton?
Everton may need to think about a long-term replacement to Baines moving forward, but in truth Van Aanholt should not be that player.
Palace would surely hold out for £10million-plus for his signature as he is still under contract until 2021 and the Toffees would be overpaying for him.
The Dutchman is brilliant offensively and operates well as a winger, but lacks defensive prowess and could struggle at Goodison Park.
Allardyce may be a big fan of Van Aanholt, but a jump up to Everton may be a step too far for him.

Likely to happen?
Allardyce has shown in the past he is a big fan of Van Aanholt and a move for him in the New Year seems very probably.
However, Palace are surely going to be reluctant to sell the full-back leave Selhurst Park amid a relegation battle and he could come at a high price.
