Rangers have rejected a bid from English club Wigan Athletic for Josh Windass, according to Football Insider.

The sports news site claim that the League One leaders submitted an offer of £200,000 for the attacking midfielder after being impressed by his recent form.

Football Insider report that Rangers flatly rejected the bid for Windass, 23, who Wigan want to help secure their promotion back to the Championship after establishing a four-point lead over second-placed

Windass has been in superb form of late for Rangers after being moved more into a more attacking role, with his last 10 games yielding five goals and three assists.

Good move for Rangers?

Only if they can replace Windass with a superior player in the January window, which is far more significant in Scotland than south of the border. The attacking midfielder has won over previously critical Gers fans with his recent displays and his red-hot form makes him an increasingly key player. Rangers should only sell the Englishman next month for a £1million-plus fee. The days of poor transfer business should have ended with the ridiculously cut-price Barrie McKay sale.

Likely to happen?

It’s only possible if a far bigger bid than £200,000 is tabled and Windass is hankering after a return down south. His recent performances suggest that is not the case. He is also too good for League One, which is a massive step down not only from the SPL, but also one of Europe’s storied clubs. Why would you quit Rangers for Wigan when you’re playing well and in the team for every match?
