Rangers right-back James Tavernier is ready to quit the club after two English clubs made approaches to sign him next month, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that Championship sides Sunderland and Reading have expressed their interest in the 26-year-old as they look to sign the defender in the forthcoming January window.

The Mail report that Rangers will listen to offers for Tavernier, who is keen on the idea of returning to England after two-and-a-half years in Glasgow, where he has made a total of 120 appearances and won the 2015/16 Scottish Championship title.

Tavernier signed for Rangers in 2015 from Wigan in a deal worth £200,000 when Mark Warburton was manager.

Good move for Rangers?
Definitely not. Tavernier is head and shoulders above the other right-backs in the Rangers squad and is someone whom manager Graeme Murty and director of football Mark Allen should be looking to build the team around. The Glasgow giants should be looking to offload the dead wood, not a reliable performer, who is not only solid in defence but can weigh in with his fair shares of goals and assists.

Likely to happen?
Given that Rangers’ financial status makes them vulnerable, don’t rule out an exit next month for Tavernier. He is also out of contract in 18 months’ time, which means the Light Blues might be more willing to sell than would otherwise have been the case.
