Peterborough director of football Barry Fry has revealed that £2million bids have been submitted by Championship clubs for reported Leeds United targets Jack Marriott and Marcus Maddison.

News outlet ClubCall has reported that the Yorkshire giants are interested in the two attackers ahead of the January transfer window and deployed a scout to watch the Posh win 3-1 against Bradford on Boxing Day in order to keep a close eye on the pair.

Now, Fry has revealed that the League One club have flatly rejected offers worth £2million for each of centre-forward Marriott and winger Maddison.

“Interest in Maddison and Marriott is inevitable. We’re prepared for it, but we don’t have to sell them. Obviously if we get bids of £10million for them it’s a different story, but we have had nothing like that so far,” he said, as quoted by Peterborough Today.

“We’ve had £2million bids from Championship clubs, but that isn’t enough for us to even start talking. We don’t want to lose either of them. Maddison has nine goals and 23 assists this season which pretty much makes him irreplaceable.”

OPINION

Only League One leaders Wigan Athletic have scored more than Peterborough’s 42 goals in the division this season, and attacking pair Marriott and Maddison have been key to the team’s promotion challenge. As Fry points out, it will take big money to prise the pair from London Road during the January window, given their significance to the team. Marriott has struck 21 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions since joining from Luton Town last summer and has made the climb from the fourth tier to League One look an easy one. As for Maddison, he is arguably the outstanding player in the division. He is both goal scorer and goal creator, adding a monumental 18 assists to his nine goals in all competitions this season. Leeds’ interest is understandable, but would they be willing to blow Championship rivals out of the water to land the attacking duo? That is the big question.
