Derek McInnes will hold talks with Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne later today (Wednesday) about quitting for Rangers after missing training this morning, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim that McInnes, 46, will seek discussions with the club chief in the wake of the decision last night to reject a request from the Light Blues for permission to speak to him about becoming their new manager.

The Scottish Sun report that Dons boss McInnes is eager to listen to what Rangers have to say and is now seeking a resolution.

The latest twist in the saga came this morning with the news that McInnes won’t take training as his team prepares for Friday night’s trip to Dundee.

It is said that Rangers are ready to make a second offer of over £1million in compensation in a bid to speed things along.

OPINION

McInnes has expressed his frustration that Rangers have waited six weeks to make a formal move for him, but it appears only a matter of time before he is unveiled as the permanent successor to Caixinha. Aberdeen are refusing to make it easy for their long-standing manager even though reports have stated that the compensation offered for his services is above £1million. This could mean McInnes leaving the club he has managed with such distinction on a sour note. But there is an inevitability to his exit, and it will surely be wrapped up within days.
