Reliable journalist Alison Conroy has claimed that Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes and assistant Tony Docherty may not take training today amid a rejected approach from Rangers.

The Gers were knocked back by Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne after asking to speak to McInnes about a move to Ibrox, and, as reported by the Scottish Sun, are readying a second bid involving a compensation offer of around £1million.

In a statement on the club’s official website, the Dons said: “Aberdeen Football Club has announced this evening that Rangers have contacted the Club asking for permission to speak to Derek McInnes and that permission has been refused.”

It seems there may be more developments today after Conroy, a senior reporter at Radio Clyde, made the claim on Twitter, as McInnes’ long-touted move to Ibrox moves closer to fruition.

OPINION

The decision for McInnes and Docherty to not take training is a significant one, and would suggest that the 46-year-old is set for crunch talks with the club. If Rangers do submit the reported £1million-plus bid, then Aberdeen would do well to accept the offer and move on. McInnes has been a loyal servant of the club for four years now, and has been the mastermind behind their rise to the top end of Scottish football. Both clubs will hope for a swift conclusion to the situation so as to avoid any repercussions on the pitch.
