Celtic outcast Liam Henderson looks set to exit the club after being offered a week-long trial in January by Serie B club Bari, according to the Daily Record.

The Scottish newspaper claim that Bari boss Fabio Grosso, the Italian international defender who scored the World Cup-winning penalty in 2006, has opened the door for a potential move to Italy for the Hoops flop.

The Record report that the former Scotland Under-21 international, 21, is said to be aware that he needs to leave Glasgow to further his career, and is willing to move to Europe to do so.

Bari currently ply their trade in Serie B, but are well-placed in second to earn promotion back into the Italian top-flight next season.

Good move for Celtic?

Given that Henderson has made just a single appearance – against Dundee in October – this season, he is not a significant part of the plans of manager Brendan Rodgers. It is best for the Hoops that they free up space on their wage bill for players who are going to get a game, or Rodgers thinks can develop into a potential first teamer. Henderson does not fit the bill on either count.

Likely to happen?

It seems inevitable that Henderson will quit during the forthcoming window. He has spent much of his time in senior football out on loan, including a successful year at Hibernian, who he helped end their 114-year wait for the Scottish Cup in 2016, coming on as a 70th minute substitute as they overcame fellow Championship side Rangers 3-2. Given his place in the Hoops pecking order, not many bookies would be willing to offer odds on Henderson being at the club beyond next month.
