Griffiths: I’m not frustrated at Celtic

|

Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths has responded hilariously on Twitter to a suggestion he has stropped over his lack of game time in recent weeks.

The 27-year-old has been an unused substitute in the past three consecutive games, with Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard getting the nod ahead of him.

The Scottish Sun suggested that the Scotland international had “taken the huff” due to his omission recently after manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed he could not speak on behalf of his players.

The Celtic boss claimed that he was only picking his time based on current form and that he could not say whether his striker was frustrated.

However, Griffiths has responded in brilliant fashion on social media by insisting that he has not stropped, as cited by his personal Twitter account.

Celtic host Hamilton on Wednesday night in the Scottish Premiership and Griffiths will hope for a recall as Rodgers rotates during a busy winter schedule.

The centre-forward has had a brilliant campaign despite his recent absences, scoring nine goals and supplying eight assists in 25 appearances.

OPINION

Griffiths has rightly come on record to ensure supporters that there is no drift with Celtic despite his axe from the starting line up over the past few games. The striker is still an integral part of the Bhoys squad and it appears to be simply a case of rotation with a heavy load of fixtures. Celtic now have the brilliant position of having three talented forward all competing for a starting position and that does mean someone is likely to miss out each week. Griffiths has proven his worth at Parkhead in recent years and a few games on the bench is certainly not doing to define him. He is still a key senior player in the team and is already closing in on double figures for goals this season.
