Dundee have shot down reports that Celtic have submitted a bid for star defender Jack Hendry, according to the Evening Telegraph.

The Dundee-based newspaper report that their information is the club have not received any bids for the highly-rated 22-year-old, despite claims to the contrary.

The Daily Mail previously reported that Celtic had submitted an offer of £500,000 for Hendry, but the Telegraph now claim that it would take a lot more than that to prise the enforcer away from Dens Park.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly expressed his admiration for Glasgow-born Hendry, who joined the Dark Blues on a free transfer from Wigan in the summer.

Good move for Celtic?

Absolutely.

Hendry has shown himself to be an assured, classy defender during his time with the Dark Blues, and it is inevitable that he will move on soon.

The 22-year-old has made 22 appearances this season in the top-flight, and has stood out in a pretty poor Dundee side.

If Celtic can secure the deal for a six-figure sum, then it will be a brilliant move for them.

Likely to happen?

Well, it certainly looks less likely than was suggested, with no bid submitted as of yet.

But no bid does not mean there will not be a bid, and Celtic will surely go in for Hendry in the coming days.

Rodgers’ admiration of the young star is well-known, and it is a relatively cheap deal that could pay back a million times for Celtic.
