Celtic have made a £500,000 offer for Dundee defender Jack Hendry, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims on its transfer blog (1:09pm, Saturday 30th December) that the Bhoys have launched a six-figure bid to try sign the centre-back.

It is understood that Brendan Rodgers’ side have officially moved for the 22-year-old, who only has 18 months remaining on his contract with Scottish Premiership rivals Dundee.

The report also details that Hendry has caught the attention of Premier League trio Southampton, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace already this season for his performances.

Good move for Celtic?

Celtic could certainly do with an extra centre-back in the January transfer window and rising star Hendry is an exciting prospect.

The ball-playing defender is beginning to make serious improvements to his game and at 22 could be ready for the next step up in his career.

Kristoffer Ajer and Dedryck Boyata have forged a decent centre-back partnership for the Bhoys recently, but there is a need for reinforcements moving forward.

Likely to happen?

Celtic appear to have stolen a march on their English rivals in the pursuit of Hendry and stand a good chance of securing his signature.

The youngster only has 18 months remaining on his existing contract with Dundee and an exit in the New Year appears a distinct possibility.

However, the only concern is if some richer Premier League teams enter the running with their own offers to try sign the highly-rated defender.
