Celtic attacking midfielder Joe Thomson has rejoined Queen of the South on an emergency loan deal, it has been confirmed.

The Scottish Championship side announced on their official Twitter account and official website that Thomson, 20, has agreed terms to sign on a month-long deal ahead of the official January transfer window opening.

Thomson was thrown straight into first-team duties on Saturday to make his second debut for Queen of the South in their 3-2 defeat to Falkirk.

The Scotland Under-21 international was sent out on loan by Celtic to Livingstone in August but was recalled by the Scottish Premiership holders at the start of September after he made just three first-team appearances for the second tier outfit.

Celtic academy product Thomson made 18 appearances last season for Queen of the South and scored four goals.

OPINION

Thomson has made just a single senior Celtic appearance since graduating from the club’s youth ranks and it appears he has his work cut out to make it at his parent club, where competition for places is so intense. He has had a number of loan spells, with varying degrees of success, and has made an impact in the Scottish second tier. Is he a future Celtic first teamer? Probably not, especially as his contract is up next June and he did not make the matchday squad on a single occasion this season. There is no winter break in the Championship and Queen of the South will continue to play right through the times were the Bhoys first team will be resting up in Dubai. Dumbarton, Livingstone and Inverness fixtures are coming up for Thomson and his team-mates at Palmerston, and the loan spell is perfect for getting Thomson back in rhythm.
