Frank Lampard believes that there will be a Tottenham backlash following the defeat against Manchester City and expects their manager Mauricio Pochettino to make changes to his starting XI.

Spurs were humbled 4-1 away at Man City in the Premier League as it showed there was a huge gap behind them and the current runaway leaders.

The north London club are seventh in the league table after the result on Saturday and know they face a huge fight to end up in the top four this campaign.

Pochettino’s side have been criticised for their level of performances since their win over Real Madrid at the beginning of November.

They currently finish the weekend three points adrift of a Champions League spot and are a long way off their form from the past couple of seasons.

Chelsea and England legend Lampard insists that several of Spurs’ first teamers have dropped off recently and expects there to be repercussions.

“A few of the players are not playing anywhere near the form they were playing, not with the urgency or intensity, and if you take take that away from your game bad things happen,” Lampard told BT Sport, as cited by their official Twitter account.

“I think there might be a few changes in the next game. The squad is not that vast so I think he is slightly hamstrung, but I think he (Pochettino) he will make changes.

“He is not a man to mess around and we know he is not scared to make changes.”

OPINION

Spurs saw a three-game winning run end emphatically at the hands of Man City and in truth they have not looked themselves in the past couple of months. They need to lift themselves ahead of the busy Christmas period where they could drift a long way off the top four if they enter a poor run of results. Lampard has hinted that there could be changes made to the starting XI and that could give the team a much-needed lift. Serge Aurier and Erik Lamela are two players who started on the bench against Man City that could add a lot of quality to the side, while Dele Alli is a current stater that is severely under pressure over his current form.
