Jermaine Jenas has named Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez as his unsung hero in the Premier League this season.

The BT pundit was asked to name the division’s unsung star that does not grab the headlines for their performances.

Jenas decided to pick Spurs’ centre-back Sanchez as his selection following his positive impact since his £42million arrival from Ajax in the summer.

However, some fans may be surprised that his teammate Heung-Min Son was not named due to his consistent displays in attack for the north London club.

“21 years of age, first season in the Premier League. I think he has had an unbelievable first half of the season. Doesn’t get any recognition for it and goes about his job the right way,” Jenas told BT Sport Score, as cited by his official Twitter account.

OPINION

Sanchez certainly has made a phenomenal impact at Spurs and has turned out to be a perfect fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s defence. The ball-playing centre-back is one of the best young talents in the Premier League and is at the perfect place to develop his game. The 21-year-old impressed in Holland for Ajax and so far has managed to replicate that sort of form in England. He is learning from some of the best in the business by playing alongside Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld. Sanchez still has a rash side to his game that needs to be worked on, but that will disappear as he gets more experience and his pace and power makes him the perfect. modern-day defender.
