Jamie Carragher has made the huge admission that he has always had a “soft spot” for Tottenham after watching their club legend Glenn Hoddle as a child.

Liverpool legend Carragher was mocked on social media for his own poor record against Spurs, who he netted three own goals against during his playing career.

The 39-year-old responded on social media to the hilarious jibe that he always played well for Spurs by explaining he has been a long-term admirer of the north London club.

He alluded to the famous strike scored by former Spurs midfielder Hoddle as he produced a stunning lob in 1983 against Watford.

“Always had a soft spot for Spurs after growing up watching that Hoddle chip at Watford on MOTD (Match of the Day),” Carragher wrote on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Spurs have become a popular team among most supporters in recent years and they have produced some fine individual players over the years such as Hoddle. Mauricio Pochettino is the current Spurs manager tasked with trying to turn the current squad into a side that aren’t just pleasing to the eye, but that can also win silverware. They have some extremely talented players in their squad and prolific goalscorer Harry Kane is the shinning example of that. However, they have agonisingly missed out on trophies despite their considerable improvement under Pochettino and the pressure is now really on for them to deliver.
