West Ham yet to receive any bids for Oxford – insider

|

West Ham are unaware of any bids for young starlet Reece Oxford amid rumours of a January exit for the 19-year-old defender, according to a club insider.

ExWHUemployee, who is a reliable source for exclusive insider information at the club, has revealed on Twitter that the Hammers have not received any bids for Oxford.

Speculation has been growing to suggest that Oxford could be set for an exit from the London Stadium in January, after spending the first half of the season on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.

The Sun previously reported that Hammers boss David Moyes was to sanction a January sale for Oxford, with a cut-price £6million deal on the cards for Monchengladbach.

Oxford has failed to nail down regular game time at the German club, making just four appearances in the first half of the season.

That in turn led the Daily Mail to report that the Hammers were ready to recall the 19-year-old enforcer in January if there were injuries to the squad.

Now, ExWHUemployee has revealed on Twitter on Thursday that the club are unaware of any bids for the 19-year-old, and also claimed that he is most likely to return to the club in January.

OPINION

It should come as a relief to Hammers fans that there have not been any bids for their young starlet, as the club’s position on the matter remains uncertain. It would seem a rash move to sanction a January exit for Oxford, who is still just 19. The versatile defender has been touted as a future star for the club, and to see him leave in January, most likely at a depleted price, would be a big blow for supporters, especially considering Slaven Bilic reportedly rated Oxford at more than £20million. Surely the best outcome here would be to keep Oxford at the club and let him continue his development on loan, and hopefully he can return to the club and fulfil his potential as a star in claret and blue.
