Real Madrid will have been preparing themselves for the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen before the defeat to Tottenham, but it is highly unlikely they would have focused on Kieran Trippier.

However, the 27-year-old defender played a key role for Spurs on Wednesday night as Spurs pulled off a memorable 3-1 win at Wembley in the Champions League group stages.

Usual suspects Alli (two) and Eriksen were on hand with the goals for the North London club, but there were other outstanding performers for the Premier League side.

Trippier has become Spurs’ secret weapon recently and he highlighted his importance to the team with a phenomenal display against Madrid on the biggest stage.

The right wing-back coped well defensively, but his attacking talents is something that is continuing to stun opponents.

He assisted the opening goal of the game with a stunning first time cross into the path of Alli and Spurs attackers have become used to latching on to his brilliant service.

Trippier now has a sensational seven assists in just 12 games across all competitions this season and his delivery is inch-perfect on most occasions.

The England international really has become a crown jewel to manager Mauricio Pochettino and his work quite often goes under the radar.

Trippier has not always had it so smooth since his arrival from Burnley in 2015 and was originally on the fringes of the team.

The full-back made just 19 appearances during his first campaign with the club and just 22 last season, with the presence of Kyle Walker proving difficult for him.

However, he has continued to work hard and his transformation under Pochettino is now clear to see as he is a key member of the side.

Trippier does face competition from teammate Serge Aurier this year for a spot in the starting XI, but his irresistible form surely makes him the current number one right-back.

He is set to continue terrorising opposition’s full-backs as he bombs forward and teams must become aware of his dangerous precision crossing.
