Eric Dier captained England to a goalless draw against Germany on Friday night – and Tottenham fans praised him on Twitter for his performance.
The 23-year-old wore the armband for the Lions as they drew 0-0 at home to Germany in an international friendly.
He was used as a central midfielder by Gareth Southgate and got a full 90 minutes under his belt, while club team-mates Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose also started the game.
Dier capitalised on several senior absences to the England squad to captain his nation for the first time and he will be relatively pleased with his steady display in the middle of the park.
It was a mainly dull affair for much of the contest and Manchester City’s Leroy Sane went closest to scoring as his long-range effort cannoned off the crossbar.
Spurs fans on social media were crediting Dier for his overall contribution and feel that he had a good game.

Trippier is having a brilliant game. His ball control and delivery has been quality. Dier has taken charge and looked mature and professional. Rose has also looked more confident and almost got a goal for himself. ? #COYS https://t.co/PR5bOZc3wu

Not surprised Dier has been handed captaincy at all. He’s a leader. Been conducting things at Spurs for a while. Age is irrelevant. #EnglandCaptain #COYS

Dier has developed into a key player for Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs and is also becoming a mainstay in the England side.
The versatile ace can be deployed as either a midfielder or a centre-back, but has been preferred as a central midfielder for his country.
England host Brazil on Tuesday in another friendly and Dier will hope to continue impressing during the break.
