Leeds United are still interested in Sheffield Wednesday attacker George Hirst, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the Whites had a formal approach turned down in the past for the 18-year-old, but remain keen on landing the highly rated talent.

It is understood that the centre-forward is set to leave Hillsborough at the end of the season when his contract expires after being frozen out of the first team.

Hirst has not featured for Wednesday so far this season and has fallen far down the pecking order.

The report details that Leicester have already had a £2million bid rejected for the England Under-20 international and that several clubs are monitoring him.

Good move for Leeds?

Hirst is certainly the type of player Leeds should be chasing and has a bright future ahead of him despite his troubles at Championship rivals Wednesday.

The striker scored 40 goals across different age levels last season and is prolific in front of goal/

He can also be used as a left-winger if required and could help improve Thomas Christiansen’s attacking line-up.

Likely to happen?

Hirst is expected to move on from Wednesday in the near future and it could be a difficult ask for Leeds to persuade him to move across Yorkshire.

Leicester have already shown their desire to land the teenager and have the ability to blow the Whites out of contention in the transfer market.

There have been several young players break into the Leeds team recently and that should be an encouragement, but Hirst appears destined for the top flight despite his bizarre omission at Wednesday.
