Manchester United are reportedly willing to offload defender Luke Shaw when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Times claims that the club want to sell the 22-year-old on a permanent deal as manager Jose Mourinho is adamant that he no longer has a future at Old Trafford.

The newspaper reports that Turkish giants Fenerbahce are interested in signing him and United are looking to receive around £20million for Shaw who reported earns £130,000-a-week at Old Trafford.

Good move for Manchester United?

With Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian and Daley Bling the preferred left-back choices for United boss manager Mourinho, both parties are likely to benefit from Shaw’s departure from the club.

Since Mourinho arrived last season, Shaw has failed to impress which has led the Portuguese to openly criticise the defender in public.

Although the full-back has struggled with injuries over the last couple of seasons, he has still failed to maintain a regular place in the starting line-up even when fully match fit.

The Englishman has only featured twice for the club this season, which were both matches in the Carabao Cup where he failed to play 90 minutes.

The defender even struggled to impress ex-United manager Louis van Gaal which shows that he might need to change his approach and commitment levels if he wants to prolong his Old Trafford career.

There is no doubt Shaw has the potential to replicate his performances with his former club Southampton which enabled United to sign him in the first place.

However, right now, it seems inevitable that Mourinho has run out of patience with the youngster and it would be no surprise to see him leave the club in the near-future.

Likely to happen?

Although the report claims United are looking to offload the defender on a permanent basis, it might not be the best idea to let him leave during the January transfer window.

The Manchester club suffered with a lot of injuries last season and the same could potentially happen this time around with the festive period coming up, which means that strength in depth is key for Mourinho.

However, if a club is willing to match United’s asking price, the club are likely to cut their losses and allow Shaw to leave Old Trafford and try and reignite his career.
