Graham Roberts has insisted that the next Rangers manager is someone that knows about the history of the club.

The Gers are still on the search for a full-time manager and are yet to find a successor to Pedro Caixinha since he was dismissed back in October.

Graeme Murray has been in temporary charge as caretaker boss since, but his side have lost their last two consecutive games in the league against Dundee and Hamilton.

They now face two matches against second-placed Aberdeen and the worst case scenario will see them slip 12 points behind them in the league.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has been the long-time favourite to land the vacant position at Rangers, but has insisted that he will stay with the Dons.

Roberts was asked on social media about the vacant position at Ibrox and claims that the new manager must be someone who knows the club well.

“I would love it mate, I beat Celtic when at Clyde. But truthful I think we need a Rangers man who knows the club,” Roberts wrote on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Rangers’ search for a permanent manager is beginning to get out of hand and a new senior man must be appointed as soon as possible. They are regressing further if anything under Murty and are worryingly slipping down the league table. Former Gers boss Alex McLeish is someone that would fit Roberts’ criteria of knowing all about the club and is currently without a club. However, he has confirmed that he has had no contact from Rangers about becoming their new manager and maybe that is an avenue they should pursue. It is not an ideal situation going into two huge matches with Aberdeen and it will ultimately be down to the players to significantly lift their own form, with several of them massively underachieving at present.
