The wheels are slipping off Tottenham’s title challenge as their Wembley woes spread away from their far-from-happy temporary home.
Spurs’ 2-1 defeat at Leicester on Tuesday night was their third loss from five Premier League matches and left them 13 points adrift of runaway leaders Manchester City, who will pull 16 points clear if they beat Southampton at home on Wednesday evening.
Mauricio Pochettino was a picture of frustration and anger at the King Power Stadium as he watched his players create, then miss, plenty of excellent chances, and he was not wrong to conclude that his side deserved at least a share of the spoils.
But the Argentine will also be seething at the ineptitude of his star players in front of goal, and is likely to ring the changes for Saturday’s short trip to Watford to get his team’s bid for top four – forget the title for now – back on track.
