Rangers No3 Jonatan Johansson raved about teenage midfielder Cammy Palmer after his performance in a 2-2 friendly draw with Manchester United Under-23s on Thursday afternoon.

Johansson was in charge of a strong Gers team that included first-team stars Carlos Pena, Bruno Alves and Niko Kranjcar as well as rarely seen summer signing Dalcio.

On-loan Manchester City starlet Aaron Nemane and Pena’s compatriot Eduardo Herrera got on the score sheet for the home side as United replied with goals from Edinburgh youngster Ethan Hamilton, 19, and striker James Wilson.

Development coach Graeme Murty,  in caretaker charge of the first-team for the second time this year, looked on from the side-lines at Auchenhowie.

Ibrox No3 Johansson singled out midfielder Palmer, 17, for praise in the aftermath of the match as he ran the rule over the inclusion of young players.

The Finn told Rangers TV: “We spoke about that, and Cammy Palmer especially had a really good game. He is a player from the Academy who I have been impressed with.

“He was playing alongside Niko and Niko spoke to him the whole game and guided him and encouraged him to get on the ball. I felt he had a really good game, so that was pleasing to see.

“It’s good for us as coaches and managers to see them in a different environment. When you take players out of their comfort zones and see how they react – do they get shy or do they get more confident.

“But he really felt like he belonged on the pitch and looked a player.”
