Charlie Adam has claimed that current Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes would be an excellent choice for the vacant managerial position at Rangers.

The Gers currently have Graeme Murty in caretaker charge at Ibrox, but the search for the next full-time boss is well underway.

Pedro Caixinha was dismissed by the Scottish giants after a poor start to the league season and the Sunday Post have reported that McInnes could become his successor.

The 46-year-old has built his reputation as a manager during his four-year spell with Aberdeen and could be offered the chance to join a league rival.

Stoke midfielder Adam believes that McInnes would be the ideal man to become the new permanent Gers boss and feels his knowledge of the Scottish league would be crucial.

“I think he has took Aberdeen as far as he can and he would be an excellent appointment [for Rangers],” Adam said on the PL Debate Show, as cited by Sky Sports.

“Derek will come in if it is him and he knows the league, knows the players so it would be a good appointment.”

OPINION

Rangers made the right call in axing Caixinha from his position and it’s crucial they now bring in the right replacement. Caixinha was a big gamble given his lack of experience in Scotland and ultimately his summer signings failed him which cost him his job. There is still the chance for a new man to turn the season around at Ibrox and lift them from their fourth placed finish in the league. McInnes has shown his quality with Aberdeen recently and his side have become the second best team in the country under his tenure, behind the rampant force of Celtic.
