Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has not picked up a serious ankle injury, according to Sky Sports.

The news outlet claims that the 21-year-old underwent scans on Monday and the results show he has no damage to his ligaments.

He was forced to withdraw from the England squad ahead of international friendlies against Germany and Brazil, with Spurs team-mates Harry Kane and Dele Alli doing the same.

Winks was forced off against Crystal Palace on Sunday with his ankle injury, but the player has received good news.

The central midfielder twisted his right ankle in the 1-0 win over Palace, which was fortunately not the left one that caused him to miss several months at the back end of last season.

He will be relieved not to have suffered another injury setback as he begins to become an important player in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Winks has started the last five consecutive Premier League games and also played an important role during the club’s win over Real Madrid in Europe.

He will hope that his ankle injury means he misses no club football and Spurs travel to bitter North London rivals Arsenal after the international break.

OPINION

Spurs fans will be relieved to hear the positive news about Winks as a long-term absence would be cruel on a player that his playing his best ever football. The midfielder has made a real breakthrough this campaign and is benefitting from the guidance of Pochettino. He is currently a mainstay in the starting XI and is putting in well rounded displays, with both attacking and defensive elements to his game. Winks is proving to be a brilliant passer of the ball and that is something that gives him a great chance of representing England at the 2018 World cup. He will be gutted to miss the upcoming international friendlies, but there will be more opportunities further down the line.
