Liverpool hope to sign Gibbs-White before he turns 18

|

Liverpool are hoping to sign Wolves’ young midfield sensation Morgan Gibbs-White before he turns 18 in January, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that the Merseysiders are battling with Arsenal and Tottenham to sign the central midfielder, 17, following his eyecatching age-group displays.

The Mail report that Liverpool are particularly keen on the England Under-17 World Cup winner and are “hoping to take advantage” of the fact that Wolves cannot tie him to a new deal until he is 18 on 27 January.

Gibbs-White’s contract at Molineux expires at the end of next season and he could be tempted by a move.

Good move for Liverpool?

It is a measure of Gibbs-Whites’ precocity that he has already made eight senior appearances for Wolves, although he has been overlooked this season as Nuno Espirito Santo puts his faith in the big-money signings who have arrived in the last two campaigns. Liverpool have a track record of buying young English talent and developing them into first team stars, as they have done with the likes of Joe Gomez, Jordon Ibe and Raheem Sterling in recent years. If the Anfield talent spotters believe goalscoring central midfielder Gibbs-White is in that bracket at the same age, then he could be a smart acquisition.

Likely to happen?

On the fringes at Wolves, England Under-17 sensation Gibbs-White could be prised away in January by one of the Premier League big hitters. The word is that Liverpool could be ready to pay £5million for the rookie, which could sway the Championship leaders into a sale.
