Liverpool summer signing Andrew Robertson has revealed that he has held discussions with manager Jurgen Klopp after a slow start to his career at the club.

The 23-year-old secured a permanent move to Merseyside from Hull City during the summer transfer window for an initial fee of £8million.

However, the full-back has held to play second fiddle to teammate Alberto Moreno throughout the majority of his debut campaign at Anfield.

The defender has only made two Premier League appearances this season and he is yet to feature in the Champions League group stage matches so far.

Robertson was able to enjoy minutes on the pitch after completing 90 minutes for the Scotland national team in the friendly against the Netherlands on Saturday.

Liverpool’s new recruit later admitted that he has spoken to Klopp about his early season problems with regards to game time so far, but he is confident that he can break his way into the starting line-up sooner rather than later.

“I’ve spoken to the manager because I felt as if the settling-in period was over for me and I thought I was ready to play,” he said as quoted in the Scottish Sun.

“I felt I did myself justice in the games I have played so I had a good chat with him, he gave me a few points to work on and that’s kept me going.

“How do I cope with this? That’s a hard one. Maybe it’s a question I can’t answer right now because I’ve not cracked it yet. I’ve not been used to it.

“If I can keep doing what I’m doing then hopefully my chance will come.”

OPINION

It’s no surprise to hear that Robertson has held talks with his manager as he would have expected to make more than three appearances in all competitions so far. It must be tough for the Scotland international especially after Liverpool have struggled defensively this season and Klopp has still refused to give him a run in the side. During all three matches, the full-back has produced solid performances but he is a tad unfortunate that Moreno has finally found his feet at the club. As Robertson mentioned, all he can do is continue working hard in training and he will surely enjoy more minutes on the pitch with festive period on the horizon.
